Shenandoah Man Wanted for Aggravated Assault Taken Into Custody in New York


A Shenandoah man who was wanted in connection with an aggravated assault and multiple outstanding warrants has been taken into custody, according to Shenandoah Police.

Police announced Saturday, March 28, 2026, that 22-year-old Rodelfy Liriano Corniel, of Shenandoah, is now in custody with the assistance of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Authorities said that upon completion of the extradition process, he will be transferred back to Shenandoah Borough Police.

Liriano Corniel had been sought by police following an incident that occurred on February 19, 2026, in the 100 block of South Bower Street. According to court documents, officers were dispatched around 3:20 p.m. for a report of an assault involving a 19-year-old woman.

The victim told police that Liriano Corniel allegedly struck her in the head with a handgun during an altercation. Police reported that she sustained visible lacerations and swelling and was transported to the hospital by Shenandoah Community Ambulance for treatment.

Authorities said Liriano Corniel fled the scene prior to police arrival and was subsequently wanted on felony aggravated assault charges. Police also noted at the time that he was wanted in Luzerne County before the Court of Common Pleas.

In a separate incident on March 14, 2026, Shenandoah Police encountered Liriano Corniel while he was already wanted on multiple warrants. According to an affidavit of probable cause, an officer on patrol in the 100 block of South West Street observed Liriano Corniel and another male attempting to hide behind a parked vehicle.

When the officer approached and identified him, Liriano Corniel allegedly fled on foot, leading police on a chase through several borough streets. He was last seen running east in the 200 block of West New York Street, where the pursuing officer lost sight of him.

At the time, police said Liriano Corniel had multiple active warrants, including those issued by Hazleton City Police, the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Office, and Shenandoah Borough Police for offenses including simple assault, failure to appear in an aggravated assault-related case, and aggravated assault.

Additional charges were filed following the foot pursuit, including felony flight to avoid apprehension and misdemeanor evading arrest on foot.

Further details regarding Liriano Corniel’s return to Schuylkill County were not immediately available.
