fficers with the Mahanoy Township Police Department were dispatched around 2:45 p.m. on April 17, 2026, to the area of 84 Suffolk Road for a reported motor vehicle crash with injuries.
Upon arrival, police found a vehicle overturned off the roadway. Two female occupants had exited the vehicle and were treated at the scene by emergency personnel before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
According to the investigation, the vehicle had been traveling southbound on Route 54 when the driver attempted to pass a garbage truck. While in the passing lane, the driver encountered oncoming traffic and attempted to re-enter the travel lane. Police say the driver then lost control of the vehicle, struck an embankment, and overturned, coming to rest on its roof.
During the course of the investigation, officers also determined that false information had initially been provided by one of the individuals involved.
As a result of the incident, the driver will be cited for careless driving and a seatbelt violation. A passenger will also be cited for a seatbelt violation. Additionally, one individual will face charges related to providing false statements to law enforcement.
Police say the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
