Elderly Schuylkill County Man Targeted in $2,800 Identity Theft Case


Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating an identity theft incident that resulted in the attempted withdrawal of $2,800 from a Schuylkill County resident’s bank account.
According to a release, the incident occurred on March 2, 2026, around 2:11 p.m. along in Pine Grove Township.

Police say the victim, a 72-year-old man, contacted authorities after receiving a call from M&T Bank in Connecticut regarding suspicious activity on his account. The bank reported that an unidentified male had attempted to withdraw $2,800 using the victim’s identity.

Investigators determined the suspect was in possession of the victim’s Pennsylvania driver’s license and used it during the attempted transaction.

In addition to the attempted withdrawal, the victim’s personal information, including his name, address, and driver’s license, was reported stolen.

State Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Schuylkill Haven barracks.
