Ex-Boyfriend Found Hiding in Closet During Shenandoah Burglary

Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with an early morning burglary in the borough on Wednesday.
According to Shenandoah Police, officers were dispatched around 2:16 a.m. on April 8, 2026, to a residence in the 300 block of West Coal Street for a reported burglary.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the caller, who told police she had been out working all day and returned home with her boyfriend. The pair reported hearing noises coming from a second-floor bedroom. When they went to investigate, they heard a noise coming from a closet in the main bedroom.

According to the affidavit, the woman secured the closet door and then the bedroom door. A short time later, a man identified as Carlos Lirino, 25, of Shenandoah, who police say is the woman's ex-boyfriend, forced his way out of the closet, breaking both the closet and bedroom doors before fleeing downstairs.

Police say the victim was at the top of the stairs when Lirino ran into the kitchen, grabbed a 12-inch butcher knife with a white handle from a drawer, and stood at the bottom of the steps.

After they called 911, Lirino allegedly dropped the knife and fled the residence.

Further investigation determined that Lirino had gained entry through a small basement door at the front of the home. Although the basement door leading into the first floor was locked from the outside, police say Lirino was able to unlock it and enter the residence.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate Lirino.

Lirino is currently wanted by Shenandoah Police and faces charges including felony burglary, criminal mischief, and simple assault.
