Meth, Cash Found Hidden Under Hood of Vehicle in Minersville Arrest

A Lykens man is facing felony drug charges after police say suspected methamphetamine and cash were discovered hidden inside a vehicle during an investigation Wednesday night.

According to Minersville Police, the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on April 8, 2026, when Patrolman Brian Gossert was conducting routine patrol in the borough.

While driving through a municipal parking lot, Gossert observed a maroon 1993 Ford Explorer in extremely poor condition parked illegally in a paid permit space. A records check revealed the vehicle’s registration had expired in December 2025.

Approximately 30 minutes later, Gossert observed the same vehicle traveling east on Sunbury Street before pulling into the Fuel Up convenience store parking lot on South Delaware Avenue.

Police say the vehicle stopped, and a male passenger exited and entered the store. Gossert then initiated contact with the driver, identified as Zane Troy, 25, of Lykens.

During the interaction, Troy told police the vehicle belonged to his grandfather and stated he was unable to renew the registration due to being involved in a Protection From Abuse (PFA) situation. He was also unable to provide proof of registration or insurance.

While speaking with Troy, officers made contact with the passenger, who initially refused to provide identification. Police later identified him as Todd Marberger, who was found to be wanted. Marberger was taken into custody without incident after additional officers arrived on scene.

According to police, Marberger made an unsolicited statement indicating there were bags containing suspected controlled substances hidden under the hood of the vehicle in the engine compartment.

Police then decided to tow the vehicle for further investigation and advised Troy of the decision. While retrieving personal belongings from the vehicle, Troy reportedly became increasingly agitated.

Authorities say Troy then opened the hood and removed a green M&T Bank bag from the engine compartment. As he attempted to remove cash from the bag, officers observed a glassine bag consistent with narcotics packaging.

Police attempted to secure the bag, but Troy allegedly resisted before officers gained control of it. Inside, police found two glassine bags containing an off-white crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine, along with $1,230 in cash.

Troy was taken into custody at the scene.

Further investigation, including consent to search the vehicle, led officers to locate additional bags hidden under the hood. These contained prepackaged marijuana, additional suspected methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia, including glass smoking devices.

Police said the total weight of the suspected methamphetamine recovered was approximately 21.45 grams.

Troy was transported to the Minersville Police Department and later arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker in Shenandoah.

He was charged by Minersville Police Chief Jeffrey Bowers and Patrolman Brian Gossert with:

  • Felony Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
  • Misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Troy was committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 cash bail.

The suspected drugs will be sent to the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab for further testing.
