Road Closure Scheduled on Route 54 Near Shenandoah for Bridge Repairs


Motorists traveling near Shenandoah should prepare for a temporary road closure later this month as bridge repair work is scheduled along Route 54 in West Mahanoy Township.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Route 54 will be closed between Raven Run Road and Newtown Road in the village of William Penn beginning Monday, April 27, 2026. The closure is expected to remain in place through May 15, 2026.

The work, which will be performed by PennDOT maintenance forces, involves repairs to a bridge along this stretch of roadway. The closure will be in effect 24 hours a day throughout the duration of the project.

During the closure, a detour will be in place for traffic in both directions, utilizing Route 924 to Main Street (Gilberton/Maizeville), through Mahanoy Plane to Girardville.
