Schuylkill County Conservancy Announces Spring Events Across the County

As warmer weather arrives and signs of spring begin to appear, the Schuylkill County Conservancy is inviting residents to take part in a series of free outdoor programs designed to connect the community with nature.

The lineup includes nature walks, educational programs, and volunteer opportunities for all ages.

Schuylkill County Sketchers Nature Walk

The Conservancy will host a relaxed and creative Schuylkill County Sketchers Nature Walk on Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the waterfall parking lot off Waterfall Road at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park in Pine Grove.

Led by Conservancy naturalist Audrey Wells, the walk encourages participants to slow down, observe their surroundings, and capture nature through sketching. The event is open to all ages and skill levels, and no prior art experience is required. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own sketching materials.

Arbor Day Program at Penn State Schuylkill

On Friday, April 24, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., the Conservancy will take part in an Arbor Day program at Penn State Schuylkill’s campus arboretum.

The event will feature the planting of a Dawn Redwood tree in memory of Michael Mazur, a Penn State graduate who dedicated his career to forestry and conservation efforts throughout Schuylkill, Carbon, and Lehigh counties. The ceremony will celebrate both the importance of trees and the lasting impact of Mazur’s environmental stewardship. The event is free and open to the public.

Earth Day Cleanup at Frog Hollow Nature Area

Residents are invited to celebrate Earth Day by giving back to the environment during a community cleanup at Frog Hollow Nature Area on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers will help remove litter and restore the area following the winter months. Participants should bring gloves and wear sturdy shoes and appropriate outdoor clothing. Garbage bags will be provided. The event is also an opportunity for students and scouts to earn community service hours while helping preserve a local природal space.

Spring Nature Walk with Gyotaku Art

The Conservancy will wrap up its spring programming with a Spring Nature Walk with Gyotaku Art on Saturday, May 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Frog Hollow Environmental Education Center.

The program begins with a short guided walk, followed by an introduction to Gyotaku, the traditional Japanese art of fish printing. Participants will create their own prints using natural materials and learn about how local ecosystems support fish and bird populations. The event is geared toward elementary-aged children with their parents, as well as adults interested in nature and art. Attendees should wear clothing suitable for outdoor activity and working with acrylic paint.

All events are free and open to the public. Organizers encourage residents to take advantage of the season by exploring the outdoors and participating in activities that promote environmental awareness and community involvement.
