He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Lord of Pottsville, and brothers Edward Keiser of South Paris, ME, and Bruce Keiser of Kingston, RI, as well as many nieces and nephews. After graduating from PAHS, Pete moved to Stowe, Vermont, where his passion for skiing flourished. He and his friends, including Pottsville’s Tom Murphy, Christopher Tamulonis, and Tim Farrell, “owned” the mountain. They were among the first daredevils in the region to go airborne with 360 somersault rotations off jumps—first by building a take-off ramp during the warm months and practicing by landing in a pond. They became well-known Stowe legends and worked at local restaurants and ski shops to support their skiing lifestyle. Their sense of adventure also took them out west, where they skied off cornices in Utah onto untouched powder at elevations well above the tree line.
Pete had a natural ability to relate to teens and was passionate about helping guide them as they navigated life. During and after pursuing a degree in social work from Goddard College, he worked at a youth services bureau in Vermont. He brought his deep appreciation of nature into this role by introducing students to the outdoors, including developing a winter camping program that involved backwoods trekking on snowshoes.
His desire to work with his hands later led him to learn carpentry and establish a deck and home addition business. Working independently or with a small crew, he completed many outstanding projects.
All who were part of Pete’s journey know that, first and foremost, he was open-hearted and generous in spirit. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. His unforgettable smile, the twinkle in his eyes, and his laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Charles Baber Cemetery Chapel in Pottsville at noon on April 25. Interment will follow at the Keiser family plot.
