Girardville Philanthropists Establish Three Endowed Scholarships at Marian Catholic High School

Marian Catholic High School has announced a new gift from Girardville philanthropists Joseph J. and Rose Chiaretti, who have established three endowed scholarships to support students at the school.
According to the announcement, the scholarships include two designated for incoming freshmen and one for a graduating senior. All three awards will be distributed annually and are based on demonstrated financial need.

The Chiarettis, longtime supporters of Catholic education in Schuylkill County, have a history of involvement with local schools. Joseph Chiaretti previously served on the board of Cardinal Brennan High School in Fountain Springs prior to its closure in 2007. During that time, he developed a connection with Father Robert Finlan, who now serves as principal at Marian Catholic.

School officials say the addition of these scholarships continues a recent increase in endowment support. The three new funds represent the fourth and fifth endowed scholarships established at Marian Catholic within the past year.

Father Robert Finlan said the scholarships will provide meaningful assistance to families, noting that a significant portion of the student body relies on financial aid.

Joseph Chiaretti said the decision to create the scholarships is rooted in his and his wife’s experience with Catholic education and their desire to support future generations of students.

Endowed scholarships at Marian Catholic are structured to provide long-term financial assistance. Contributions are invested, with annual awards funded through earned interest while maintaining the original principal. Over time, the funds are designed to grow and increase the amount available for scholarships.

School officials noted that endowed scholarships require a minimum principal of $50,000 before awards can begin, though donors may contribute toward that total over several years.
