According to a press release from Mahanoy Township Police Chief Jody Long, the inspection took place along Burma Road just south of Morea Road. More than a dozen vehicles were inspected during the operation, which was carried out with assistance from federal immigration agents who were on scene for support.
Police said one vehicle was impounded due to safety violations identified during the inspection process.
Additionally, two operators were found to be in the country illegally. Authorities reported that both individuals were taken into custody by Mahanoy Township Police and later transported to a federal processing center.
The Mahanoy Township Police Department signed onto the in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) 287(g) program as part of their Task Force in February 2026 which allows officers to enforce limited immigration authority during routine police duties under ICE oversight.
