Coal Cracker 10K Returns to Shenandoah on Saturday

One of Pennsylvania's toughest road races is set to return to Schuylkill County as the annual Coal Cracker 10K takes place on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
The 6.2-mile race begins in downtown Shenandoah and takes participants on a demanding route through the surrounding hills and backroads before bringing them back into town for a memorable finish.

Widely regarded as one of the most challenging 10K races in the state, the Coal Cracker tests runners both physically and mentally. The course features a series of rolling hills and sharp turns, highlighted by the legendary climb up St. Nick's Breaker Hill. The grueling ascent has become the signature challenge of the race, pushing competitors to their limits before rewarding them with a fast downhill stretch toward the finish.

However, runners aren't finished just yet. One final uphill push awaits as they cross the finish line in downtown Shenandoah.

The event is more than just a race. Participants and spectators can enjoy a post-race celebration. The festivities will continue with the annual Coal Cracker After Party at The Lyric Bar & Restaurant.

More than 50 awards, handcrafted from Schuylkill County coal, will be presented to top finishers and age-group winners, giving participants a unique piece of Coal Region heritage to take home.

In addition to the signature 10K race, the event will also feature a 1.5-mile Kids' Fun Run for children ages 12 and under, as well as a 1.5-mile run/walk designed for participants seeking a shorter distance.

Race organizers remind interested runners that the final day to register is Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
