Pottsville Police Bring Fugitive Back to Schuylkill County Following Arrest in Texas

A man wanted by Pottsville Police for allegedly failing to comply with Pennsylvania's sex offender registration requirements has been returned to Schuylkill County after being apprehended in Texas by the United States Marshals Service.
According to the Pottsville Bureau of Police, Robert Frederick Montgomery, 66, formerly of Pottsville, was taken into custody by local authorities on June 8, 2026, following his return to Pennsylvania.

Montgomery had been sought by the Pottsville Police Criminal Investigation Unit on charges of Failure to Comply with Registration Requirements. Police said the charges stem from allegations that Montgomery failed to update his address as required by law after being released from Schuylkill County Prison.

Earlier this month, Montgomery was located and arrested in Houston, Texas, by members of the United States Marshals Service.

Following his return to Pennsylvania, Montgomery was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli. Bail was denied, and Montgomery was remanded pending further court proceedings.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 22, 2026, before Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi Reiley.

The Pottsville Bureau of Police expressed its appreciation to the agencies involved in locating and apprehending Montgomery, including the New Jersey U.S. Marshals Service Task Force, the United States Marshals Service Middle District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Deputy U.S. Marshal Michael Waszen for their assistance in returning Montgomery to Pennsylvania to face the charges.
