William Wested Murphy, 35, was charged Monday with stalking, terroristic threats, unlawful dissemination of an intimate image, and harassment following an investigation by West Mahanoy Township Police. The charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were dispatched to a residence on Ohio Avenue in West Mahanoy Township around 5:10 p.m. on Friday, June 26, after receiving a report of harassment and terroristic threats.
The victim told police that Murphy, her former boyfriend, had repeatedly called her cellphone using blocked numbers. Investigators allege that between June 23 and June 25, Murphy left 16 voicemail messages containing threats intended to intimidate and frighten her.
Police said the messages allegedly included threats of physical violence, references to harming the victim, and statements that caused concern for the safety of both the victim and her children. The complaint alleges Murphy also threatened to come to the victim's residence and made additional statements intended to place her in fear.
During the investigation, the victim also reported that Murphy had posted a nude photograph of her on Facebook without her consent. According to police, the image had been taken while the pair were in a relationship and was allegedly shared on the page of a mutual acquaintance. The victim further told investigators that Murphy left another voicemail asking her to "pick up the phone and chat," stating he would have the image removed, which police believe was an attempt to persuade her to contact him.
The affidavit also notes that Murphy was already the subject of an active arrest warrant stemming from a previous harassment case involving the same alleged victim.
Murphy has been charged with one count each of stalking, terroristic threats, unlawful dissemination of an intimate image, and harassment.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
