Teresa Mercuri
, 89, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, with her loving family by her side.

Born in Platania CZ, Italy on July 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Rosaria (Isabella) and Vincenzo Mercuri.

Teresa was the beloved wife of the late Natale “Chris” Mercuri, who preceded her in death in 2015.

She was a devoted member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Schuylkill Haven and a lifelong member of the former St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville.

She was also previously active in the Amor Italian Club Ladies Auxiliary.

Alongside her husband, Teresa owned and operated several well-known local establishments, including Mercuri’s Bar, the Davis Hotel, Villa Montagna, and, most recently, the Country Squire.

Above all else, Teresa’s greatest pride and purpose was her family. A devoted mother and the cherished matriarch of five children, she found her deepest happiness in caring for those she loved. She had a remarkable gift in the kitchen and was especially known for preparing incredible Italian meals that brought everyone to the table. Nothing made her happier than having her large family gathered together, sharing food, laughter, and treasured time with one another. Her home was filled with warmth, generosity, and traditions that will continue for generations.

In addition to her husband, Teresa was preceded in death by her daughters, Teresa Mary Rinaldo and Natalie Gennerella and her husband, Robert; her brothers, Francesco Mercuri and his wife, Leda, and Antonio Mercuri; her sister-in-law, Maria Mercuri and her husband, Frank; and Winnie Doyne and her husband, Dave.

She is survived by her children, Antonette “Tina” Mercuri, wife of Domenic, of Schuylkill Haven; Rosina Mercuri of Pottsville; and Domenico P. Mercuri of Pottsville; her son-in-law, Chuck Rinaldo, husband of Terry Brennan, of Pottsville; her grandchildren, Terri Lee, wife of Ian Keck; Christopher A. Mercuri and his fiancée, Madison Accordino; Angela Hufnagle, wife of Eric; Alexandra Patrocino, wife of Willy; Regina Wozniski, wife of Derek; and Maria Luscan, wife of Harry; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Luciano, Gianni, and Lorenzo Keck; Cambria, Giuliana, Domenic, Dario, and Luella Mercuri; Marcus and Elliot Patrocino; Carlo and Elliana Luscan; Rafaella Wozniski; Adaline Hufnagle; and step-great-granddaughter Izzy Accordino.

She is also survived by her loving siblings, Maria Mercuri of Pottsville, widow of the late John Mercuri; Albino Mercuri and his wife, Ivana, of Pottsville; and Santo Domenico Mercuri and his wife, Maria, of Italy, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, June 12, at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Schuylkill Haven.

A viewing for family and friends will be held at the church from 9:15 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Interment will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Pottsville.

Ethel "Betty" Nothstein
, 91, of Williamstown, NJ, formerly of Kaska, passed away Wednesday, June 3rd, at Virtua Hospital.

Betty was born in Kaska, PA on December 8, 1934, a daughter of the late Albert and Ethel (Watkins) Mullins.

She is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Lewis R. Nothstein, Sr.

Betty was a member of Cumbola United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed creating cherished handmade creations through her quilting and crocheting, playing Rummy with her grandchildren, singing in the church choir, watching her soap operas, and cheering the Phillies on to victory. Betty treasured every moment spent with her family and especially loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her children: Lewis Nothstein Jr. (Anna), Thomas Nothstein (Constance), and Betty Jean Ott (Ed); her grandchildren: Lewis III, Brian, Melissa, Kimberly, Kristin, Kenneth, Thomas, Rebecca, and Samantha; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings: Albert "Earl," William, Thomas and Robert Mullins and Marge Stevens.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 13th from 10:00 am until the Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Both will be held at Haus Bartashus Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. in New Philadelphia, PA with Rev. Lorraine Heckman officiating. Interment will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park in Schuylkill Haven, PA.

Frances Jane Thomas
, 89, of Pottsville, formerly of Minersville, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, Allentown.

Born in Minersville on November 2, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret (Fredericks) Simosky.

A 1954 graduate of Minersville High School, Frances was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville. She also served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 98 and as Past Secretary of the Black Diamond Navy Club Ladies Auxiliary.

Frances was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, godmother, and friend. She cherished time spent with her family and especially enjoyed hosting family gatherings and sing-alongs. Her many interests included camping, fishing, reading, playing pinochle and Pokeno, and spending time with friends. Her warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Daniel S. Thomas, who passed away on August 1, 2017; her brother, Anthony S. Simosky; and her sister, Margaret Meyers.

She is survived by her two sons, Daniel Thomas and his wife, Maryann, of Ashland, and Robert Thomas and his wife, Georgia, of Pottsville; two grandsons, Daniel Thomas Jr. of Ashland and Scott Thomas of Valrico, Florida; her sister, Diane Barnyock; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch Street, Pottsville, PA 17901. The service will be officiated by her son, Robert Thomas, Lutheran Licensed Lay Minister Candidate. Family and friends are invited to call at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church at the above address or Black Diamond Navy Club, 14 North St., Minersville, PA 17954.

Private interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Dutcavich Funeral Home & Cremation Care Inc. Minersville is entrusted with arrangements.

Irene Troxell
, 92, of Lewistown Valley, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at her residence.

She was the wife of the late Oscar Troxell, with whom she celebrated 47 years of marriage at the time of his death in 2020.

Born in Lewistown Valley, Irene was a daughter of the late Arthur and Sallie (Reichwine) Heisler. A lifelong resident of Lewistown Valley, Irene never lived more than a few feet from the place where she was born.

Irene was a 1952 graduate of Tamaqua High School. While she devoted most of her life to her family and home as a homemaker, she was employed for several years at the former Morgan's Knitting Mills in Tamaqua before starting a family.

A faithful and devoted member of Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in Lewistown Valley, Irene's life was centered on her faith, her family, and her church. She enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, and the simple pleasures of country life.

She is survived by a son, Ryan Troxell, with whom she resided; and several nieces and nephews.

Irene was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Heisler, Leroy Heisler, and Mark Heisler; and a sister, Margaret Leiby.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, with Pastor Debra Rogers officiating. Interment in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Cemetery will follow. Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the Tabernacle.
