Schuylkill Technology Center Awarded Nearly $75,000 State Grant for Equipment Upgrades

Students at the Schuylkill Technology Center will soon benefit from upgraded training equipment thanks to a nearly $75,000 state grant announced this week by state Rep. Tim Twardzik and state Sen. Dave Argall.
The Schuylkill Technology Center was awarded $74,895 through the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Competitive Equipment Grants program, funding designed to strengthen career and technical education (CTE) programs across the Commonwealth.

According to Twardzik, the investment will help ensure students have access to the modern tools and hands-on training necessary to prepare for successful careers after graduation.

“This investment ensures students at Schuylkill Technology Center have access to the tools and training they need to succeed after graduation,” Twardzik said. “Career and technical education is critical to building a strong local workforce and preparing students for good-paying jobs.”

Argall said the funding will help support multiple programs offered at the technology center.

“I was pleased to learn the Schuylkill Technology Center will receive this highly competitive funding to support the purchase of new equipment for their many different programs,” Argall said.

The grant will be used to enhance instructional equipment, including upgrades to the center’s automotive technology and welding programs. Officials said the improvements will expand hands-on learning opportunities and help prepare students for careers in the skilled trades and other high-demand industries.

The funding is part of a statewide investment of $4.3 million awarded to 54 schools and career and technical centers. Through the program, schools can receive grants of up to $85,000 to purchase industry-aligned equipment that provides students with practical training connected to in-demand careers.

State officials noted that Pennsylvania has increased funding for career and technical education by $65 million since 2023, representing nearly a 50% increase. The additional investment has helped expand enrollment opportunities and strengthen workforce readiness programs throughout the state.

The Schuylkill Technology Center serves students from school districts across Schuylkill County, offering specialized career and technical training in a variety of fields designed to prepare graduates for employment, apprenticeships, and post-secondary education.
