Third Cable Theft Reported in Schuylkill County as Investigators Probe Similar Incidents

Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville are investigating another theft involving telecommunications lines, the third such incident reported in Schuylkill County in recent weeks.
According to a public information release, troopers responded to the area of Barnesville Drive and Grier Avenue in Rush Township after receiving a report that telecommunications wire had been cut and stolen from telephone poles.

Police said Frontier Communication reported that approximately 30 to 40 feet of coaxial cable had been removed. Investigators believe the theft occurred sometime between June 4 and June 6.

The latest incident follows two recent thefts involving Verizon lines in neighboring Schuylkill Township.

In the first case, discovered on May 26, state police said approximately 1,060 feet of 300-pair, 19-gauge wire valued at $12,300 had been removed from a pole line along Old Route 209.

Less than two weeks later, troopers were called to the area of Old Route 209 between Piersol Street and Mining Road, where approximately 1,200 feet of copper wire had been stolen from Verizon lines. Police said that theft caused a communications outage over the weekend.

While investigators have not indicated whether the incidents are connected, all three thefts involved communications infrastructure and occurred within a relatively short period in Schuylkill County.

The investigation into the Rush Township theft remains ongoing.
