Virginia Man Jailed After Allegedly Waving Gun at Juveniles in Mahanoy City


A Virginia man accused of waving a firearm at a group of juveniles in Mahanoy City is being held in Schuylkill County Prison on $75,000 bail after being charged with multiple firearm and related offenses.

According to Mahanoy City Police, Dylan Peters, 19, of Norfolk, Virginia, was taken into custody on June 4, 2026, after police received a report of a male waving a gun at a group of juveniles at the Cocoa Hut in Mahanoy City.

Police located Peters in the area of West Market Street, where he allegedly fled on foot, leading officers on a brief pursuit before he was apprehended.

Authorities charged Peters with possession of a firearm with an altered manufacturer's number, firearms not to be carried without a license, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, and evading arrest or detention on foot. Peters was also charged with possession of marijuana.

In addition, police reported that Peters was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Chesterfield Sheriff's Office in Virginia.

Court records show Peters was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley on the night of June 4. Bail was set at $75,000 monetary bail, which Peters was unable to post, resulting in his commitment to Schuylkill County Prison.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 18, 2026, before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker.
