The fair will run from Monday, July 27, through Saturday, August 1, at the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds, 2270 Fair Road near Schuylkill Haven.
Although the gates were closed to the public Sunday, the fairgrounds were busy as entries were judged and organizers, exhibitors and volunteers completed final preparations for opening day.
Photos accompanying this article provide a behind-the-scenes look at Sunday’s Judging Day activities as exhibits were evaluated and the fairgrounds were readied for visitors.
Monday is designated Pulling Day, with the fairgrounds opening to the public at 4 p.m. Goodtime Amusements will open the carnival midway and rides at the same time.
Opening-day activities include the fair royalty contest at 4 p.m. on the JRL Emergency Services Stage, followed by a tractor parade at 4:30 p.m. and the royalty crowning at 6 p.m.
“Ways of Wildlife” with Porcupine Pat will be presented at 6 p.m. along the indoor midway. Visitors can meet the 4-H members and their horses at the Horse Barn from 6 to 7:30 p.m., while the Dairy Judging Contest begins at 6:15 p.m. in the Ag Arena.
Johnny Peers & The Muttville Comix will perform at 6 and 8 p.m. in the amphitheater.
The opening-night truck and tractor pulls, presented by Pull Off Productions LLC, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Ag Museum Track. Monday’s pull will feature 2.6 Pro Street, 3.0 Limited Pro, King of the Street Pro Street Gas, Wild Street and Street Semis.
Admission to Monday’s pulls is $15 and includes admission to the fairgrounds.
New Individuals will provide live entertainment from 7 to 9 p.m. on the JRL Emergency Services Stage.
Each day of the fair will carry a different theme. Tuesday is Kids Day, Wednesday is Schuylkill County Day, Thursday is Senior Appreciation Day and Friday is Military/First Responders Day. The fair concludes Saturday with a celebration of “250 Years of Freedom, Family & State Fairs.”
General fair admission is $5 from Monday through Saturday. Children age 10 and younger are admitted free, and parking is free.
Daily ride bands are $25. The carnival opens at 1 p.m. Tuesday and at 4 p.m. Monday and Wednesday through Saturday.
