Michael Earl Moyer, 64, of Girardville, was arrested Monday, August 10, 2026, by Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville. Court records show Moyer is charged with 115 counts of sexual abuse of children involving child sexual abuse material.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the PSP-Frackville Criminal Investigation Unit, the investigation began on January 10, 2024, when police received a report of suspected child sexual abuse material allegedly in Moyer's possession.
Police said Moyer's girlfriend at the time was collecting some of her belongings from a home on West Main Street in Girardville when she discovered four SD memory cards in a pair of Moyer's overalls.
According to the affidavit, the woman told investigators she did not know Moyer owned any SD cards and became suspicious. She allegedly inserted the cards into her cellphone and began reviewing them.
Investigators said she reported seeing pornography that appeared to include toddlers, children, adolescents and teenagers. According to police, she stopped looking through the cards after making the discovery and surrendered them to PSP-Frackville.
The following day, January 11, 2024, a state police investigator examined the memory cards and allegedly observed what appeared to be pornographic material involving a prepubescent female. Police said the cards were then placed back into evidence.
The investigation was later reassigned to a different Trooper in July 2025. According to the affidavit, investigators obtained a search warrant for the four memory cards on August 7, 2026.
Police said the cards contained a combined 12,236 files totaling approximately 64.8 gigabytes.
According to the affidavit, investigators found numerous images and videos they allege depicted underage females. Police said one card contained 28 nude images of underage females, while another contained 79 nude images and three pornographic videos involving underage females, along with other pornographic material.
In total, Police wrote that they observed 112 photographs and three videos of underage children either nude and/or engaged in or simulating sexual activity. According to the affidavit, investigators believed 98 of the images depicted female children engaged in indecent contact.
Police interviewed Moyer on August 10. According to the affidavit, Moyer allegedly told investigators he had an interest in nude children that he described as curiosity rather than sexual attraction. Police allege he acknowledged saving images of nude children to the SD cards but denied photographing or manufacturing any of the images.
Court records show the 115 charges were filed under Pennsylvania's sexual abuse of children statute. Counts 1 through 98 are graded as second-degree felonies, while Counts 99 through 115 are graded as third-degree felonies.
Moyer was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli. Bail was set at $25,000 monetary, and court records indicate he was committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 19, 2026, at 9:50 a.m. before Tarantelli.
