
Minersville senior Jordan Bowers became the boys’ soccer program’s all-time leading goal scorer Tuesday afternoon, breaking a record that had stood for 25 years.
Bowers scored three goals in the Battlin’ Miners’ 16-1 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly on . The hat trick raised his career total to 102 goals and moved him past Ian Mahal’s longstanding mark of 101.
Three Goals Make Minersville Soccer History
Mahal had held the program record since 2001. Bowers entered Tuesday’s home game with 99 career goals, putting him within reach of both the century mark and the school record.
His first goal brought him to 100 for his career. His second tied Mahal’s record, and his third gave him sole possession of the top spot in Minersville boys’ soccer history.
Mahal congratulated Bowers on the accomplishment following the game, creating a moment shared between Minersville’s former and current career scoring leaders.
Coach Praises Bowers’ Character and Athletic Ability
Ahead of the game, Minersville boys’ soccer coach Ed Burke praised Bowers for his character as well as his athletic ability.
“Jordan is a tremendous athlete but an even more incredible young gentleman,” Burke said.
Along with his record-setting accomplishments on the soccer field, Bowers also plays football and basketball for Minersville.
