Man and Woman Charged Following Ashland Domestic Altercation

Ashland Borough Police investigation into a Centre Street domestic altercation

ASHLAND — Two borough residents face assault and related charges following a domestic altercation involving a vehicle and a fight on a Centre Street sidewalk, according to court documents.

Ashland Borough Police charged Cody Wayne Kemler, 25, and Seairrah Kemler-Poff, 23, each with second-degree misdemeanor simple assault and summary counts of disorderly conduct and harassment.

Kemler Reports Altercation to Police

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Kemler came to the Ashland Borough Police station in September to report an altercation with Kemler-Poff, whom he identified as his former wife.

Kemler told police that Kemler-Poff was intoxicated and attempted to drive his vehicle from outside a residence in the 1700 block of Centre Street. He said he entered the passenger seat, placed the vehicle in park and turned it off.

Kemler alleged that Kemler-Poff then punched him in the face multiple times and kicked him. He also acknowledged striking her in the face during the altercation, according to the affidavit.

Police reported observing bruising and swelling beneath Kemler’s left eye, a cut on his lip and bruising on his arm. Officers photographed the injuries and obtained a written statement, according to the affidavit.

Kemler-Poff Gives Police Different Account

Kemler-Poff provided police with a different account when she went to the station on .

According to the affidavit, she denied being intoxicated and said she intended to drive for DoorDash. She alleged that Kemler entered the vehicle and began choking her, prompting her to tell him to let go.

Kemler-Poff told police that she struck Kemler in the face while he was choking her and that he then struck her in the face. She said they subsequently exited the vehicle and began fighting on the sidewalk.

The affidavit states that police observed a bruised lip, bruising on Kemler-Poff’s arm and redness on her face.

Charges and Preliminary Hearings

Court records show that both criminal complaints were filed on . Summonses were issued on .

Preliminary hearings are scheduled for , before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli.

The charges are allegations. Kemler and Kemler-Poff are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
