Former softball players, family members and friends gathered last Saturday to honor Jerry Sitkus, a former Minersville Little League girls’ softball coach and longtime scorekeeper for multiple sports in the borough.
A street sign bearing the name “Sitkus Way,” located near the Minersville Little League Field, recognizes his years of dedication to local athletics and the lasting relationships he helped build.
The idea for the sign came from Sitkus’ former players, who also funded the tribute. They wanted to recognize both his contributions to Minersville sports and the friendships and connections that have continued long after their playing days.
Even years after coaching them, Sitkus continues to bring his former softball players together, keeping those relationships and shared memories alive.
The former players also thanked Minersville Borough for granting permission for the sign and having it erected.
