The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry today announced that it will lay off nearly 600 of its staff as a result of the Senate’s failure to vote on HB2375, which would have allowed for $57.5 million in funding to administer unemployment benefits to out-of-work Pennsylvanians. The bill, a bi-partisan piece of legislation, was passed by the House on October 19.

Celebrate Schuylkill, a group of local art enthusiasts including The Arts Barn, The Walk In Art Center, The, Mud & Maker Pottery Studio, The Art and Craft Gallery of Hamburg, The Schuylkill Choral Society, Strawberry Playhouse and Gabriel Youth Orchestra recently announced the schedule for their fifth annual Arts Tour, Spirit of The Holidays.
This year, the tour not only expands their calendar to offer more events than in past years, but also adds a new venue, The Art and Craft Gallery of Hamburg.
Celebrate Schuylkill is sponsored in part by The Schuylkill County Visitor’s Bureau. The community is invited to attend open houses, art displays, holiday shopping, crafts, raffles, giveaways, concerts, presentations, caroling, kids activities, visits with Santa, Victorian teas, bake sales, theatre and more.
Each location features something different during the month long tour with the common focus of celebrating and enjoying art in our community.

Man Facing Federal Charges for Child Pornography
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced Wednesday that Brian Tate, age 34, of Gordon, Pennsylvania, was indicted on November 15, 2016, for attempting to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity and transporting child pornography.
