Homeowner Shoots Intruder After Attempting to Set Home on Fire

A man shot an intruder into his home Sunday in North Manheim Township after he attempted to set fire to his home.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the incident occurred around 6:00pm Sunday.

Police say an unidentified  man entered a garage in North Manheim Township, took a gasoline can from the garage, then entered a nearby home and poured the gasoline around in an attempt to light the home on fire.  The exact location of the incident was not provided.

The homeowner, only described as a 57 year old male, pushed the intruder out of the home.  After the homeowner was knocked to the ground by the intruder in an altercation, the daughter of the homeowner handed a gun to him, where the intruder was shot in the arm and abdomen.

The intruder stayed on the ground until police and paramedics arrived.

Police are still attempting to identify the intruder.

The intruder was flown to an area hospital for his injuries while the homeowner suffered injuries to his face.

Bakery Road and Martha Lane were closed during the incident.
