Fire Displaces Five in New Philadelphia


A fire in New Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon has displaced five.

Just before 2:45pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to 230 Valley Street, New Philadelphia, for a working house fire.

As crews arrived they found heavy smoke and flames showing from the 3rd floor/Attic of one of the homes.

Units from New Philadelphia, Blythe Township, Schuylkill Township, Tamaqua, Pottsville, and Palo Alto were dispatched to the scene along with Schuylkill Haven for their Rapid Intervention Team.

Crews had the fire under control within an hour with one home being severely damaged and adjacent homes suffering smoke damage.

The American Red Cross is assisting victims from two of the homes, a single victim from one of the homes and in the second home, a family of 2 adults and 2 children.
