One Flown After Tractor Trailer Crash on Interstate 81 near Frackville


The driver of a tractor trailer was flown to an area hospital after crashing his rig on Monday afternoon.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, around 4:45 pm, Monday, emergency personnel were called to the area of mile marker 124 near Frackville in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 for a tractor trailer over the embankment.

The first chief on scene changed the location after finding the rig over the embankment at mile marker 125.3 with heavy entrapment.

The driver, Randall Edwards, 57, of Mount Carmel, was extricated my emergency personnel and flown to Geisinger in Danville with unknown injuries.

Traffic was restricted to one lane while crews were at the scene and the interstate was closed for a short time while Medivac landed.

State Police said that it was not known what caused the crashed.

Responding to the scene were fire departments from Altamont, Englewood, Ryan Township, Fountain Springs, and Mahanoy City.
