Child Taken to Hospital After Being Rescued from Minersville Fire


A child and several firefighters were taken to the hospital after a fire in Minersville on Friday afternoon.

Just after 4:00pm, Friday, emergency personnel were dispatched to 465 North Street, Minersville, for a working structure fire with entrapment.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy fire in the rear of the home with a 12 year old girl trapped on the second floor.

The child was able to be rescued by firefighters and taken to EMS personnel.  The child was reported to have been transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

The fire struck a 3rd alarm calling in additional manpower.  The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes of the original call but the home sustained heavy fire damage.

Firefighters not only dealt with the fire, but also temperatures close to 100 degrees at the time.  Early reports were 6 firefighters and 2 police officers were treated for heat exhaustion with some being taken to the hospital.

As of the time of this posting, there is no word on what caused the fire.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family involved in the fire.
