Mahanoy City Woman Taken Into Custody for Attacking Boyfriend with Butcher Knife

According to borough police, Deanna Kropa, 32, of Mahanoy City was taken into custody Wednesday morning after an incident at her East South Street home.

Police say around 12:10am, officers received a call for a reported domestic in the 600 Block of East South Street.  The caller was a friend of the victim who was said to have fled the home and reported that his friend's girlfriend was chasing him with a butcher knife.

When police arrived, they found a male victim inside the home, who was shirtless and had 11-12 fresh scratch marks across his chest and arms.  An 8-inch butcher knife was found nearby.

The victim told police that he came home to the house trashed and his girlfriend, Kropa, threatening to slit his throat with the knife.

Kropa alleged physically attacked the victim by punching him, kicking and biting his testicles, and scratching his chest with the butcher knife.

Officers found Kropa upstairs at the home and after numerous requests to come downstairs, complied with police.

When questioned, Kropa stated she attacked him in self defense, but couldn't provide a reason why.

Kropa was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and making terroristic threats.  She was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker, and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $50,000 straight cash bail.
