State Police Investigating Mail Fishing in Schuylkill and Berks Counties

According to PSP Troop L Public Information Officer Trooper David Beohm, the Schuylkill Haven barracks is working in conjunction with the United State Postal Inspectors Office is investing an incident involving "mail fishing".

The thefts have all occurred in Pennsylvania including Bernville, Hamburg, Kutztown, Shoemakersville, Manheim, Auburn, and Rhawnhurst.

Beohm says the thefts involve removing mail from post office drop off receptacles via a device, then retrieve any of the personal/business checks made payable.

The suspects then alter the payee and make themselves the recipient.

Anyone who may have had checks cashed but not received by the intended recipient is urged to contact their local police department and report the incident.  Law enforcement will need dates, check numbers, and when the check was cashed for further investigative purposes.

State Police say the vehicle involved in the incident is a white Infinity G37 with Pennsylvania Registration HFW 9325.
