Man Found with Drugs After Crashing into Multiple Vehicles on Route 61 in Pottsville

A New Jersey man is facing drug charges after a reckless driving incident in the city earlier this week.
According to Pottsville Police, on Tuesday, October 26th, 2021 around 5:00pm, officers were dispatched for a green Ford Explorer driving Recklessly southbound on Route 61.

Police encountered the vehicle on Route 61 near the intersection with East Arch Street as other vehicles were stopped at the intersection for a red light.

At that time officers observed the Ford driver fail to stop and the vehicle then struck three other vehicles.

The Explorer operator, later identified as Thomas Jon Ahn, 39, Cape May, NJ, was found to be suffering from an apparent opioid overdose and officers administered Naloxone on scene to reverse the overdose effects.

Schuylkill EMS provided further treatment upon their arrival as officers assisted the others involved in the accident. No other injuries were reported and the roadway was closed during the subsequent investigation.

In Ahn’s vehicle police recovered 246 wax packets containing controlled substances.

A criminal complaint was prepared charging Ahn with DUI, Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 straight cash bail and posted bail on Wednesday, October 27th, 2021.
