Mahanoy City Man Locked Up in Schuylkill County Prison for Alleged Assault

A Mahanoy City man is facing charges and is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after an alleged assault during an argument.

According to Mahanoy City Police Chief Thomas Rentschler, Regenald Rogers, 30, of Mahanoy City, is charged with simple assault for an incident that began on New Year's Eve in the 400 Block of West Market Street in the borough.

On Saturday, January 1st, 2022, a woman arrived at the borough police station to report that Rogers had assaulted her by punching her and smashing a plate over head during an argument the night before.  The woman told police that she had been knocked out during the fight, woke up Saturday morning and went to the hospital for treatment before going to the police.

The victim provided documentation from the hospital for her contusions from the blunt force trauma to her head and said Rogers caused a scene at the hospital prompting a police response as well.  

Police were unable to get in contact with Rogers until Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 when he was pulled over for a traffic violation in the borough around 1:00pm.

Rogers was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker who set bail at $25,000 straight cash. He was then remanded to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post bail.
