Man Sentenced to Probation for Assaulting Woman in Pottsville

A man has pled guilty to assaulting a woman in Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 around 11:00am, Pottsville Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Laurel Terrace for a report of an assault.

The investigation by Cpl. Renee Truscott revealed Michael Lee Thomas Anderson, 38, no known address, assaulted his 52 yr old ex-girlfriend inside her apartment. It was found that Anderson arrived at the woman’s apartment to retrieve personal items despite being told he was trespassing by the Pottsville Housing Authority (PHA) Property and became enraged when he discovered that she had discarded some of his belongings while he was incarcerated.

Anderson struck the victim about the face and head multiple times with a closed fist causing visible swelling and an abrasion to the top left side of the woman's head. The woman also sustained bruising to her right arm as a result of the assault. Anderson fled prior to police arrival but was taken into custody a short time later.

Anderson was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Plachko for two separate incidents: A criminal complaint was prepared for Anderson charging him with Simple Assault, and Criminal Trespass. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Plachko who set bail at 10%/$50,000 and Anderson was incarcerated in the Schuylkill County Prison.

Anderson appeared before Magisterial District Judge Reiley on Monday, May 9th, 2022 where he plead guilty on the charges.  Plachko sentenced Anderson with 12 months probation and no contact with the victim for 2 years.
