State Police Release Details on Interstate 81 Pile Up in Lebanon County

The Pennsylvania State Police at Jonestown have released more information on Thursday's multi-vehicle pile up on Interstate 81 in Lebanon County.

According to Troopers, three separate crashes occurred around 4:30pm between mile markers 87.5 and 86.4 in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in East Hanover Township.

Approximately 40 vehicles were involved which included 13 vehicles were involved in the first crash, 13 vehicles in the second involving 7 tractor trailers.  A third crash involved 8 more vehicles.  One of the vehicle involved was also reported to be a coach bus carrying 30 passengers.

State Police said several individuals were treated for minor injuries.

While we have received several reports that it was raining heavily, no details have been provided what lead to the cause of the crash.

State Police are still investigating the incident.

Southbound Interstate 81 and westbound Interstate 78 were closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.
