The Freeze Reopens After Car Crash that Injured Three


After a crash last weekend, the Freeze in Orwigsburg has reopened.

On Sunday, July 24th, 2022, the Freeze along Route 61 had to close after a car crashed through the front of their building.

Luckily, the ice cream shop, with the help of some local contractors were able to reopen two days later.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the crash occurred around 10:45am.

Police say William Bender, 78, was stopped at the red light at the intersection near the The Freeze when Dominic Palmeri, 26, of Schuylkill Haven was traveling on Market Street and attempted to merge onto Route 61 south.

Bender proceeded through the green traffic light and attempted to turn left into Renninger's Market into the path of Palmeri.

After the crash, Bender's vehicle got turned around drifted into the Freeze damaging the front window area of the building.

Bender sustained serious injuries in the crash and was flown along with his passenger, Carol Bender, 79, who has sustained minor injuries.

Palmeri sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital by Auburn Ambulance.
