Five Families Being Assisted by American Red Cross After Tamaqua Multi-Alarm Fire

Five families are being assisted after a fire in Tamaqua on Saturday afternoon.

Around 4:30pm, emergency personnel were called to 117 West Broad Street in Tamaqua for a possible structure fire.  Police were first on scene and reported in heavy smoke coming from the building and flames shooting from the upstairs windows.

There was a report of possible entrapment but that turned out to be negative.  Everyone escaped but several people were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

The fire quickly spread to adjoining apartment buildings and businesses including Mila Buffet and Dn'A Bikes.

The call hit at least 3-alarms calling in units from Schuylkill and nearby Counties.

The fire causing damage to at least 4 buildings with the American Red Cross helping five families.

Around 7:30pm, the fire was marked under control and by 9:30pm, all fire personnel with the exception of overnight watch were clear the scene.

Around, 6:00am, Sunday, the Tamaqua Fire Department was called back to a rekindle.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
