Geisinger Shooting Victim Identified by Montour County Coroner; Shooting and Fatal Crash Linked

The Montour County Coroner's office has identified the victim in the shooting at Geisinger in Danville on Friday.

Just after 5:00pm, Friday, the Geisinger Medical Facility went on lockdown for a reported active shooter.  

The facility and the Pennsylvania State Police would later announce that one person was shot and killed in the employee parking lot of the facility.  Late Friday, the State Police would also add that the incident was isolated and there was no threat to the public.

On Saturday, the Montour County Coroner's Office along with Milton PSP, Mahoning Township Police, Montour County District Attorney's Office announced they are investigating the death of Vikki Wetzel, 49 of Berwick. 

The Coroner's office said Wetzel was returning to her car from her shift at Geisinger Medical Center in the Laboratory Medicine Department when she was shot multiple times resulting in her immediate death.

The Coroner's office also said the incident occurred at 5:04pm according to audio recovered from a private residence security system in the area. The person of interest fled the scene in a dark SUV believed to be a Ford Edge according to video surveillance. An autopsy is being scheduled with Forensic Pathology Associates of Allentown.

The identity of the suspect has not been identified but the Daily Item is reporting that the suspect was involved in the fatal crash in Conyngham Township, Columbia County that closed Route 42, near the Kline's Reservoir, north of Aristes just after 6:00pm.
