Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Returns to Alma Mater to Speak with Students


One of the Schuylkill County Deputy Coroners returned to his alma mater to speak with students.

John Mika, Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner, returned to his alma mater, Shenandoah Valley, where he conducted a presentation for the senior students who are enrolled in the advanced biology class taught by Mr. Jeff Maksimik. 

The focus of his presentation was pathology and what he performs as a member of the coroner’s office. He also addressed issues associated with drug usage and suicide which is are concerns in our county. 

Mr. Mika who is a Penn State graduate had a 24-year career as a teacher/ correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Institution Schuylkill prior to serving as deputy coroner since 2015. His presentation concluded with a question-and-answer session that because of the student’s interest extended beyond the time allotted for the class.
