Pottsville Man Faces Assault Charges


A Pottsville man is facing charges after a reported domestic assault.

According to Pottsville Police, on Thursday, February 16th, 2023, around 9:50am, Pottsville Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of West Market Street to investigate a domestic assault.

While speaking with the 45-year-old female, she informed Police that her boyfriend of 5 years, Anthony Martin, assaulted her during the evening hours of February 15th, 2023, and into the early hours of February 16th, 2023.

She stated that on February 15th, at approximately 10:00pm, she was driving her and Martin home and he began to push and shove her while she was behind the wheel. The two returned home and at approximately 11:00pm, Martin began to punch her, kick her, and scratch her. 

The victim stated that Martin was punching, kicking, and scratching her in the face/head area, the back area, and her legs. Officers noted that the victim had signs of recent physical injuries, namely bruising, swelling, and scratches, to corroborate the account of the events and there was also an eyewitness to the incident.

The female further reported that the assault stopped for a few hours while the two slept but then started again at approximately 6:00am on February 16th. She said that Martin continued to punch her, kick her, scratch her, and even spit saliva on her. 

A witness told Police that he/she saw Martin striking the female inside the apartment and heard her yelling for help. 

A Criminal Complaint was completed, and a warrant of arrest was requested for Anthony Martin, age 43. He was charged with Simple Assault Pursuant to Domestic Violence (M2) and Harassment by Physical Contact Pursuant to Domestic Violence (S). 

Martin was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and bail was set at $20,000 unsecured. He was then released from Police custody.
