Pottsville Police Report on Weekend Incidents


Pottsville Police have released information on separate incidents where two people were charged with assault.
On Friday, February 10th, 2023, around 10:30pm, members of the Pottsville Bureau of Police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of North Centre St.

Upon arrival, the officers were met by a female and male victim, both age 27 who were standing outside the residence waiting for the police. Both victims had signs of bodily injury, and they said those injuries were a result of Gabriel Zweizig, age 30, assaulting them.

The female victim reported and argument started when Zweizig came home after from work and he assaulted both the male and female by striking each of them in the head with his fists.

Zweizig was interviewed by the investigating officers and admitted to striking both victims. At the conclusion of the investigation, Gabriel Zweizig was charged with 2 counts of simple assault and 2 counts of harassment. The simple assault charge on the female was pursuant to domestic violence.

Zwiezig was arraigned before District Justice Kilker who set bail at $25,000 Unsecured. Zweizig was then released from custody.

On Saturday February 11, 2023 at 5:50am, the Schuylkill County Communications Center dispatched the Pottsville Police to a residence in the 500 block of Ridge Ave. for a report of a domestic dispute in progress

Upon arrival contact was made with a 29 yr. old male victim who reported he and his wife, Kaitlyn Viars, 27, were arguing. During the argument, Viars struck the male victim in the face causing injury to his nose.

Officers were able to locate Viars who had left the scene, a few blocks away on foot. Viars gave a similar account of events as the male victim, admitting she struck him in the face. Viars was subsequently taken into custody.

Kaitlyn Viars was arraigned in front of District Justice Kilker for one count of Simple Assault pursuant to in domestic violence. Bail was set at $25,000 unsecured and she was released from custody.
