Ashland Man Arrested for Strangulation and Assault

An Ashland man was arrested on Monday for assaulting two people during an incident.

According to court documents, Travis Stephens, 26, of Ashland was taken into custody and charged with strangulation, simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct by Ashland Police Officer Tyler Dissinger stemming from an incident on Monday, April 10, 2023.

Dissinger was called to an apartment in the 300 Block of West Centre Street, on Monday for a report of a disturbance.

Dissinger learned enroute that there was a suicidal female at the residence.

When he arrived, he found 2 men and 2 women outside screaming at each other.

Officer Dissinger spoke with one of the men, an irate Stephens, who said his girlfriend was trying to hurt herself in the apartment.

Speaking with the girlfriend, Dissinger learned that Stephens had allegedly pushed her up against a wall and put his forearm to her throat, then threw her to the ground and sat on top of her.  Officer Dissinger said she had visible cuts and bruises on her face as well as blood on her hands.

During the questioning of the victim, Stephens became more irate, to which, Dissinger detained him in his patrol vehicle.

Speaking with witnesses, Dissinger learned from a male and female that they were outside at the time and could hear the victim yelling for help.  When the male witness entered a common area of the apartment building, Stephens charged him and punched him in the face.

As a result of the information received, Officer Dissinger took Stephens under arrest.

Stephens was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 straight cash bail.
