Upon arrival, police spoke with a male corrections officer, who said that he and another officer were doing checks inmates when they noticed that Brad Eiler, age 41 had flooded his cell, by using the toilet. The officers said they told Eiler multiple times to clean up the water and he was refusing to do so. The corrections officers entered the cell to clean up the water.

The corrections officers said when they entered the cell Eiler started yelling at both of them and then started to charge at them. A small scuffle started inside the cell which then entered the walkway outside the cell. During that time Eiler struck the male corrections officer with a closed fist to the right side of his eye. Soon after more corrections officers were able to get to the incident and obtain control of Eiler with handcuffs.
