Man Involved in Ashland Police Response on Friday Now in Custody

Nearly a dozen police officers assisted late Saturday to take a man into custody, who was responsible for a police response in Ashland on Friday.

Saturday's response was due threats that the man had made Friday to harm himself.

The man had statements that he was not going with police and if he came out of his home "it will be bad".  He had also made indications of a "suicide by cop" scenario and was also charged recently for stalking local police, fire, and EMS.

On Friday, due to safety concerns of the neighborhood, Ashland Police closed off the 1300 Block of Market Street in attempts to get him to come out of his home.  It was later learned the man had fled the home prior to police arriving.  With the help from family members, the guns inside the home were secured.

Just after 6:00pm, Saturday, officers returned to the 1300 Block of Market Street after they learned he returned home.

Officers were able to take the man into custody without any incident.

On the 302 warrant, the man will be transported to an area hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Assisting Ashland Police were departments from Frackville, Shenandoah, Foster Township, Cass Township, Mahanoy City, Mount Carmel, Mount Carmel Township, and Ralpho Township.

NOTE:  Due to the 302 warrant, we will not be releasing the man's name in connection with this incident.
