We met up with the director of the show Celena Emerick this week. “The show that we are doing right now is Chicago, and mostly about murder and how to get away with it. It’s very close to the movie, it follows the lives of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly. They want to win their cases and be innocent, but they also want to be famous and want their names in lights and in the papers. But you see Roxie realize that she gets thrown to the side once she is innocent, they got their ten seconds of fame in the paper. It’s really just a great show.
The shows are at 7 pm this Thursday/Friday/Saturday, admission is only $15! We have 12/13 pit members, and over 20 cast members, a lot of which is their first show.
All you have to do is audition to be a part of a show, you don’t need any experience, you just show up! We have some auditions coming up including the Adams family auditions and Christmas carol auditions!”
Later we were able to speak with Lisa Gilleskie, the executive director “I was talking to somebody that was considering being on the board, who was having some doubts about trying to get the theater going. I offered to manage, schedule, etc. The next day he got it approved and I became the executive director. It went from having maybe 3 events a year, to now having 48 event weekends out of the year!
Our biggest hurdle has been marketing, and it has been really hard to find the right path. We do get a lot of help; the radio station has been great with us. I can’t even begin to say how overwhelming positive the response has been to everything we do here. If anyone wants to get involved, all they have to do is show up! Email, Facebook us, etc. we will find something to do for anyone! We have auditions coming up in July (the 13th and 15th) for Adams family junior, additionally July 16th and 17th is the Christmas carol auditions! We are also having a show in October, Carrie which will be premiering on Friday the 13th at midnight!”
