Pottsville Man Faces Child Endangerment and Aggravated Assault Charges for Breaking Infant's Arm

A Pottsville man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after he admitted becoming angry and breaking his child's arm.

According to Chief of Police John Morrow, the Pottsville Bureau of Police was contacted on Monday July 3rd, 2023, by Schuylkill County Children and Youth Services and advised that a 3-month-old child was in the LVH-Cedar Crest Hospital with several bone fractures that were both deemed non-accidental injuries.

The investigation resulted in the father of the child, Gavin Spencer Griffiths, 19, of Pottsville, being interviewed where he admitted to breaking the child's arm during the early morning hours of July 1, 2023, while he was tending to the child.

During his interview, Griffiths admitted to becoming frustrated with the child which resulted in him moving his arm in such a manner and with amount of force that he knew he had fractured the arm by hearing the bone break.

Griffiths denied causing the other injuries noted by hospital personnel however all of the injuries were consistent with recent trauma and Griffiths was the only person who would have had contact with the child at the time of the injuries.

Griffiths was subsequently charged by Detective Welsh with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Endangering the Welfare of Children.

Griffiths arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James Reiley, Pottsville, and remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
