Pottsville Standoff Ends Safely; U.S. Marshals Apprehend Wanted Individual

Law enforcement was at the scene of a standoff in Pottsville for almost 2 hours on Thursday morning.

Around 10:00am, Thursday, fire personnel from the Pottsville City Fire Department were called to shut down several intersections at the request of the police department.

Those intersections included:
  • 19th & Market Streets
  • 18th Street & West End Avenue
  • 20th Street & West End Avenue
  • 19th Street & Elk Avenue
The incident in question occurred on North 19th Street and involved a wanted person by the U.S. Marshals.

According to Pottsville Chief of Police John Morrow, "The U.S. Marshals were attempting to serve a warrant that ended up being a barricaded subject in the 200 block of North 19th St. The Pennsylvania State Police SERT was summoned to assist along with other members of the State Police. The subject did peacefully surrender."

Chief Morrow referred all other questions to the U.S. Marshals office.

The closed streets reopened around 11:30am, Thursday.
