SHOTS FIRED: Pottsville Police Arrest Man for Firing Shots While Driving through City


A Pottsville man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison for allegedly firing shots while driving around the City.

According to Pottsville Police, on Wednesday November 22, 2023, at approx. 11:45am, the Pottsville Bureau of Police responded the area S. Centre St and Mauch Chunk St in reference to a “shots fired call in this area. 

Upon officers’ arrival, several witnesses were interviewed and confirmed that someone had fired multiple gun shots in this area causing substantial alarm within this area. 

The Pottsville Bureau of Police were able to develop witnesses who were able to identify the suspect as David Rivera, 53, of Pottsville. 

The Pottsville Bureau of Police learned that Rivera was driving north on Centre St when he began firing a weapon out of his vehicle through his sunroof. 

Rivera fired his weapon in this fashion while on Centre St and again when he drove west on Mahantongo St where he again fired two times. The Pottsville Bureau of Police was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Rivera, who turned himself into the Pottsville Bureau of Police on Friday, November 24, 2023. 

Detective Welsh charged Rivera with Persistent Disorderly Conduct and Recklessly Endangering another Person.

Rivera was arraigned before on call District Justice Rossi who committed him to Schuylkill County Prison on $50,000 straight cash bail.
