Victim Identified in Fatal Fire near Hegins

The victim of a fatal fire near Hegins has been identified.

Around 8:45pm, Wednesday, emergency personnel were called to 1256 West Main Street, Valley View, Hegins Township for a report of smoke pouring from the home.

Firefighters arrived on scene and confirmed heavy smoke coming from the 1st and 2nd floors of the home.

Several minutes after arriving on scene, command of the scene advised there was a possibility that someone was still in the structure.

One victim, identified as 76-year-old, Eileen Erdman, would later be rescued from the building.  Erdman was pronounced at the scene by the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office.

By 9:30pm, most units were clearing the scene.

Late Wednesday and early Thursday, the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Joseph Hall was at the scene investigating.  Details on the investigation have not been made available as of this posting.
