Fatal Officer Involved Shooting Incident in Shenandoah Overnight, Pennsylvania State Police and District Attorney to Investigate


A person died overnight in Shenandoah after being shot by a Shenandoah Borough police officer.

The shooting occurred around 1:00 am at 309 West Coal Street in Shenandoah.

As of now, specific details surrounding the incident have not been made public.

The person was fatally shot by a borough police officer after being dispatched to a property.

Shenandoah Borough Mayor Andrew Szczyglak says that Police Chief George Carado has handed over the investigation to the Pennsylvania State Police.

Mayor Szczyglak, who also serves as a Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner, has opted to recuse himself from the investigation as well.  He also would not comment and said all questions will go through the State Police.

Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Officer Trooper Beohm has stated the investigation is active.

The Schuylkill County District Attorney's Office is also investigating.
