Pottsville Drug Raid Nets Over $113,000 Worth of Meth and Other Drugs


A Pottsville man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on drug charges after a bust on Thursday.

On December 14, 2023, law enforcement agencies including the Pennsylvania State Police Troops L and M, Schuylkill County District Attorney's Office, Drug Task Force, Pottsville City Bureau of Police, and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration joined forces for a major drug operation in Pottsville.

This joint investigation resulted in the execution of three Court-Authorized Search and Seizure Warrants on various locations within the City of Pottsville. 

The operation targeted the illegal activities of a suspect identified as Dylan Joseph Ciappa, a 44-year-old resident of Pottsville.

During the executed searches, law enforcement seized substantial amounts of contraband, including:
  • Over $5,000 in Bulk United States Currency
  • Approximately 454 grams of suspected marijuana with an estimated street value exceeding $2,500.
  • Over 5 pounds of methamphetamine valued at more than $113,000.
  • Quantities of cocaine
  • A significant amount of psilocybin mushrooms

Ciappa was taken into custody as a result of the operation. 

He faces a series of charges including:
  • Possession With the Intent to Deliver (three counts: methamphetamine, marijuana, and psilocybin mushrooms).
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (four counts: methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, and psilocybin mushrooms).
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
  • Dealing in Proceeds of Unlawful Activities.

Following the arrest, Ciappa was arraigned by the on-call Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko of Port Carbon where bail was set at $150,000, 

Ciappa failed to make bail and was subsequently remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison.
