Pottsville Man Faces DUI Charges After Crash

A Pottsville man is facing DUI charges after a crash in the city last week.

According to Pottsville Police, on Sunday, April 14, 2024, just after 3:00pm, City Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at East Norwegian St. and Wolfe St.

Upon arrival, Police began an investigation into a two-car crash. 

The investigation revealed that Robert McCormick Jr., 72, of Pottsville who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol was traveling eastbound on East Norwegian St. and failed to navigate a right turn onto Wolfe St. striking a vehicle that was stopped on Wolfe St. facing northbound. 

McCormick who was driving a Toyota Rav4 then overcorrected the steering and struck the east side curb on Wolfe St. eventually causing his vehicle to become disabled. The Toyota Rav4 was towed from the scene. 

The other vehicle, driven by Nicholas Meyer, 40, of Pottsville, sustained minor damage. Meyer was not injured.

McCormick was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and was transported to Lehigh Valley Health Network for BAC testing. The result of McCormick’s BAC was that he had a BAC of .22%.

As a result of this investigation, a criminal complaint was filed on April 23, 2024, by Det. Joseph Krammes on Robert McCormick Jr. charging him with one count of DUI – highest rate a felony of the third degree, DUI – general impairment a felony of the third degree, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle a misdemeanor of the second degree and reckless driving a summary offense.
